Becomming an artistic researcher

21. Oct 2019

Music academies generally place one-to-one instrumental tuition as their core teaching and learning activity, and most jazz programs seem to have applied a similar structural approach. With pop, rock and electronica entering music academy institutions, the creative and compositional aspects of becoming a professional artist in our view needed a new curricular setting. Consequently, the Danish popular music and jazz academy of the two authors recently completed a decisive curricular turn. The main ambition was to place the students’ development of their own compositional and performative material at the core of the curriculum, materialised through the weekly KUA critique class.

The project is to be published by Platform for Learning and Teaching (LATIMPE).
